BEXLEY, Ohio (Blugolds.com) - After the first day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Blugold men are tied for eighth while the women are tied for 22nd.
On the men's side, Tony Sigrist (Jr.-Byron, Minn.) led the Blugolds with a second-place finish in the weight throw. He finished with a toss of 19.51 meters (64-0.25). The national champion, Pete Delzer from UW-Oshkosh, finished with a throw of 19.60 meters (64-3.75).
In the distance medley relay, Jake Zander (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell), Patrick Mackin (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy), Alex Adkinson (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) and Aaron Easker (So.-Eland, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood ) ran to an eight-place finish with a time of 10:11.93.
Patrick Keyes (Sr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) also competed in preliminary action in the 55-meter hurdles but failed to advance to the finals. He ran a time of 7.78 seconds.
In women's competition, Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) had the Blugolds' top finish of the day. She took seventh in the pentathlon with a score of 3,261 points.
Two women also advanced to the finals in their respective events. In the 55-meter hurdles, Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) finished with a time of 8.25 seconds in preliminaries while Talisa Emberts (Jr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) ran a time of 57.65 in the 400-meter dash prelims. Both will compete Saturday in the finals.
Also in action today were Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) the 800-meter run and Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) in the weight throw. Neither made it past preliminary rounds, however.
Tomorrow the championships will wrap up. The Blugold men will compete in two events while the women will participate in five.
