Ouellette named WIAC Newcomer of the Year

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) office announced the 2022 All-WIAC men's hockey awards Wednesday with goaltender Ryan Ouellette (Fr. – Colorado Springs, CO/Liberty) earning Newcomer of the Year honors.

Oullette led the conference with a 1.66 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage. He also tallied 470 saves in his first season with the Blugolds. He compiled an overall record of 17-6-1 including six shutouts.

In addition to Oullette, Ty Readman (Sr. – Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy) also earned a spot on the All-WIAC team while Charles Weiand (Sr. – Rosemount, MN) earned Honorable Mention distinction.

Readman led the WIAC in game-winning goals (6), was second in in +/- rating (+15) and was ranked third in goals per game (.38). The senior lead the team in goals (10), assists (10) and total points (20).

Weiand played a key role in the Blugold defense and contributed a goal and six assists on the season.

In addition, Connor Koviak (Sr. – Canton, MI/Plymouth) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Blugolds wrapped up the season with a 18-11-1 record after defeating UW-Stevens Point 6-2 in the WIAC tournament championship, capturing the program's fourth Commissioner's Cup.
