Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com – The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished in fifth place out of 15 teams after two rounds at the 2012 Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational at Eau Claire Golf & Country Club.

The Blugolds finished with 626 strokes while Luther College (Iowa) won the 36-hole event with 618. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) came in second with 619 while Saint John's University (Minn.) and the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) tied for third with 621. Eau Claire also had a second team competing, which finished in 11th place with 646 strokes.

Alex Kolquist of Gustavus led the 80-golfer field as he won medalist honors with 145 strokes, five better than the second place finisher.

Leading the Blugolds' first team was Jake Erickson (So.-Chaska, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels), who tied for 10th place with 155 strokes.

Freshman Nick Bertram (Onalaska, Wis.) had the best score of any Blugold, tying for fifth place with 153 strokes. He golfed for Eau Claire's second team.

Also finishing in the top 20 were Tyler Breitenfeldt (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Tim McCormick (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial). They both tied for 19th with 157 strokes.

Next weekend the Blugolds will wrap up the fall season at the Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic. Action will get underway Saturday and will conclude Monday.
