MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Day two of the University of Wisconsin-Stout Tip-Off Tournament resulted in a win for the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team. The Blugold men faced McMurry University of Texas and won with a final score of 82-71.
The Blugolds went into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 47-25 lead over McMurry. At the half, Spencer Page (Fr. – Rice Lake, WI) had 12 points and five rebounds. Cam Kuepers (So. – Madison, WI/Lakeside Lutheran) had 13 of the Blugold points. At the beginning of the second half, McMurry started to gain some momentum and post a bit of a comeback, cutting the Blugold lead to 13. However, that was not enough and the Blugolds ultimately sealed the victory.
Kuepers ended the night with a team-high 20 points, which was also a career-high for the sophomore who also added six rebounds to his stat line. Other scoring leaders were Page with 19 points and Ben Widdes (Sr. – Rice Lake, WI) with 18.
As a team, the Blugolds shot 52.7 percent from the field and capitalized on free throws, draining 83.3 percent of them. UW-Eau Claire ended the night with 34 rebounds, 25 of which came on defense. The Blugolds largest lead of the night was 23 points.
