MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced the members of its inaugural Hall of Fame class. The WIAC elected to establish a Hall of Fame to coincide with the conference’s celebration of its 100th anniversary which will take place during the 2012-13 academic year.

The 30-member class will be inducted as part of the WIAC Centennial Celebration Banquet to be held on August 4, 2012, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

In announcing the class, WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner noted how difficult the selection process was given the 100-year history and incomparable success of the conference. “Quite frankly, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of individuals deserving of this honor. This is just the beginning. Therefore, it is our intention to induct future Hall of Fame classes every three years with the ultimate goal of recognizing those student-athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and others whose contributions and achievements have established and solidified the WIAC’s status as the most accomplished Division III conference in NCAA history,” added Karner.

	Tim Petermann UW-Eau Claire 1971-2007 Administrator (sports information director/assistant athletics director/interim athletics director)
Served as UW-Eau Claire’s sports information director from 1971-2007, assistant athletics director from 1975-2007 and interim athletics director from 2002-04.
	Lisa Stone UW-Eau Claire 1989-2000 Coach (women's basketball)
Served as UW-Eau Claire’s women’s basketball coach from 1989-2000 and compiled a 277-59 record (.824 winning percentage) with six WWIAC/WIAC championships. She had 11 teams reach the NCAA Division III Championship, including a second-place finish in 1997 and third-place finish in 1994. In 2012, Stone was selected the WIAC Women’s Basketball All-Time Co-Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Frank Wrigglesworth** UW-Eau Claire 1964-97 Coach (men's golf, baseball, football assistant, men's basketball assistant)
Served as head coach or assistant coach of UW-Eau Claire’s baseball, football, men’s basketball and men’s golf teams between 1964 and 1997. Wrigglesworth led the men’s golf team to eight WSUC titles and 10 national tournament appearances. In 2012, he was selected the WIAC Men’s Golf All-Time Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Judy Kruckman Conference Office 1974-98 Administrator & Coach (women's swimming and diving/tennis)
Served as Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1984-96 and Assistant Commissioner of the WIAC from 1996-98. She was the women’s athletic director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84 and coached the Blugold women’s swimming and diving team from 1969-77 and women’s tennis team from 1971-74. The WIAC women’s scholar-athlete award is named in her honor.
	Terry Anders UW-Stout 1994-97 Student-Athlete (men's track and field)
Was a member of the UW-Stout men’s track and field team from 1994-97 and claimed six NCAA Division III national titles.  He was a 13-time All-American and captured 24 WSUC/WIAC championships.
	Tom Butler** Conference Office 1967-96 Administrator
Served as the sports information director for the Wisconsin State University Conference from 1967-96. He also worked as a sportswriter for the Wisconsin State Journal for 34 years and retired in 1987. In 1964 and 1965, Butler was named Wisconsin Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. The WIAC Tom Butler Award that is presented annually to a member of the media who is considered to have provided outstanding coverage to WIAC athletics is named in his honor.
	Patricia Collins UW-Platteville 1966-84 Coach (women's volleyball, badminton, women's track and field) & Administrator (athletic director) & Contributor & Life-Time Achievement
Began women’s athletics at UW-Platteville in 1966 and served as the Pioneers’ first women’s athletic director from 1972-84. She also served as the head coach for women’s volleyball (1966-84), badminton (1966-84) and women’s track and field (1966-80).
	Nate DeLong** UW-River Falls 1944-50 Student-Athlete (men's basketball)
Was a member of the UW-River Falls men’s basketball team from 1944-50 and helped the squad to four WSUC championships and three state of Wisconsin titles. He led the nation in scoring during the 1949-50 season with 861 points and holds the WIAC record with 72 points in a game against Winona State University (Minn.). In 2012, DeLong was selected to the WIAC Men’s Basketball All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration and the NAIA 75th Anniversary All-Star Team.
	Casey Edwards UW-Oshkosh 1976-78, 80, 83 Coach & Student-Athlete (men's gymnastics)
Was a member of UW-Oshkosh’s men’s gymnastics team from 1976-78 and 1980 and captured 14 NAIA and 8 NCAA Division II event titles. In 1980, he was named the NAIA Gymnast of the Year. Edwards was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1978-82 and placed fourth in the floor exercise and fifth in the vault at the 1979 World University Games. He served as head coach of the UW-Oshkosh men’s gymnastics team in 1993 and guided the Titans to the NAIA title and a second-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championship. In 2012, Edwards was selected to the WIAC Men’s Gymnastics All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Phil Esten UW-La Crosse 1970-97 Coach (men's cross country)
Served as UW-La Crosse’s men’s cross country coach from 1970-97 and guided the team to national championship competition in 27 seasons, including the 1996 NCAA Division III national title and a runner-up finish eight times. He also won 20 WSUC crowns and coached 28 runners to 46 All-America honors. In 2012, Esten was selected the WIAC Men’s Cross Country All-Time Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Mike Farley UW-River Falls 1970-88 Coach (football)
Served as UW-River Falls’ football coach from 1970-88 and compiled a 117-70-3 record with eight WSUC championships. His 117 wins rank fifth on the WIAC all-time list.
	Dave Graichen UW-Superior 1993-97 Student-Athlete (men's ice hockey)
Was a member of UW-Superior’s men’s ice hockey team from 1993-97 and claimed AHCA All-America First Team honors in 1995 and 1997, and secured AHCA All-America Second Team status in 1996. He played on four teams that participated in the NCAA Division III Championship, including runner-up finishes in 1994 and 1997.
	Mark Guthrie UW-La Crosse 1988-2006 Coach (men's track and field)
Served as UW-La Crosse’s men’s track and field coach from 1988-2006 and orchestrated the program to 22 NCAA Division III national titles (12 indoor, 10 outdoor), including sweeping the indoor and outdoor crowns 10 seasons. He also claimed 34 WSUC/WIAC championships (16 indoor, 18 outdoor).
	Roger Harring UW-La Crosse 1969-99 Coach (football)
Served as UW-La Crosse’s football coach from 1969-99 and accumulated a 261-75-7 record (.771 winning percentage) with three national titles and 15 WSUC/WIAC championships. His 261 victories rank 14th in the history of college football and are the most in WIAC archives. In 2012, Harring was selected the WIAC Football All-Time Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Rob Jeter UW-Platteville 1988-98 Student-Athlete & Coach (men's basketball)
Was a member of UW-Platteville’s men’s basketball team from 1988-91 and led the squad to the 1991 NCAA Division III national title, including selection to the 1991 All-Final Four team. He was an All-WSUC first team selection in 1990 and 1991 after earning honorable mention status in 1989. Jeter also served as an assistant coach on the Pioneer men’s basketball team from 1995-98 and helped guide the squad to a 108-6 overall record, two NCAA Division III championships and four WSUC first-place finishes.
	Ray Johnson** UW-Stout 1938-69 Coach (men's basketball/football) & Administrator (athletic director)
Was the athletic director at Stout Institute/Stout State University for 31 years and has Johnson Fieldhouse named in his honor. Served as UW-Stout’s men’s basketball coach from 1938-56 and compiled a 116-201 record with two WSUC titles. He also coached football from 1938-47 and directed the squad to the 1941 WSUC crown.
	Leah Juno UW-Stevens Point 1997-2001 Student-Athlete (women's cross country/track and field)
Was a member of UW-Stevens Point’s women’s cross country and track and field squads from 1997-2001, winning three NCAA Division III track and field titles. She received the NCAA Top VIII Award in 2001 and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American.
	David Kachel** UW-Whitewater Contributor
A Whitewater community leader for many years and a long-time supporter of UW-Whitewater, including its intercollegiate athletics department. Kachel Fieldhouse is named in his honor and the campus has a Kachel Center as part of its College of Arts and Communications, and the Kachel Innovation Center was included in Hyland Hall for the College of Business and Economics.
	Clint Kriewaldt UW-Stevens Point 1995-98 Student-Athlete (football)
Was a member of UW-Stevens Point’s football team from 1995-98 and four-time All-WIAC First Team selection. He received All-America First Team recognition from Football Gazette in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, he added WIAC Player of the Year honors and AFCA All-America First Team laurels. Kriewaldt was selected in the sixth round (177th overall) in the 1999 National Football League Draft by the Detroit Lions and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2003-07). In 2012, Kriewaldt was selected to the WIAC Football All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Americo "Mertz" Mortorelli** UW-Superior 1954-85 Coach (eight sports) & Administrator (athletics director) & Life-Time Achievement
Coached a combined 109 seasons in eight sports at UW-Superior and compiled a record of 862-534-26 in baseball, basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, tennis, track and field and wrestling. He also served as UW-Superior’s athletics director from 1954 until his death in 1985 and has Mortorelli Gymnasium and Mortorelli Drive named in his honor.
	Don Page** UW-River Falls 1957-92 Coach (baseball/men's basketball) & Administrator (athletics director)
Served as UW-River Falls’ baseball and men’s basketball coach, compiling a 130-174-1 record on the diamond with two WSUC titles and a 70-119 mark on the court. He was the school’s athletics director from 1970-92 and the conference’s assignor of football and men’s basketball officials.
	Forrest Perkins UW-Whitewater 1956-84 Coach (football/baseball) & Administrator (athletics director)
Served as UW-Whitewater’s football coach from 1956-84 and accumulated a 190-88-8 record (.678 winning percentage), including 11 WSUC titles and a runner-up finish in the 1966 NAIA Championship. He also coached baseball from 1960-65 and had a 68-27 mark with two WSUC titles, and started the men’s track and field program, coaching the team from 1956-57. Perkins Stadium is named in his honor.
	Terry Porter UW-Stevens Point 1982-85 Student-Athlete (men's basketball)
Was a member of UW-Stevens Point’s men’s basketball team from 1982-85 and claimed NAIA All-America First Team and WSUC Player of the Year accolades in 1984 and 1985. He led the team to a runner-up finish at the 1984 NAIA Championship. Porter was selected 24th overall by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1985 National Basketball Association Draft. In 2012, he was named to the WIAC Men’s Basketball All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration and the NAIA 75th Anniversary All-Star Team.
	Bo Ryan UW-Platteville 1985-99 Coach (men's basketball)
Served as UW-Platteville’s men’s basketball coach from 1985-99 and amassed a 353-76 record (.823 winning percentage) with four NCAA Division III national titles, nine NCAA Division III championship appearances and eight WSUC/WIAC first-place finishes. He was a four-time NABC NCAA Division III national coach of the year and six-time WSUC/WIAC Coach of the Year. In 2012, Ryan was selected the WIAC Men’s Basketball All-Time Co-Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Max Sparger** Conference Office 1959-93 Administrator
Served as Commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference from 1971-93. He also served many capacities at Stout State University and UW-Stout. Sparger arrived at Stout in 1959 as an assistant football and basketball coach, and was the head wrestling coach from 1961-62, the head football coach from 1963-69, while also coaching the track and golf teams during his tenure. He served as UW-Stout’s athletic director from 1969-71. The WIAC men’s scholar-athlete award is named in his honor.
	Doug Sutherland UW-Superior 1966-70 Student-Athlete (football/men's track and field)
Was a member of UW-Superior’s football team from 1966-69 and men’s track and field team from 1967-70. In 1969, he earned little college All-America and All-WSUC first team recognition on the gridiron. He was a six-time WSUC champion in throwing events and a three-time NAIA national participant. Sutherland was chosen in the 14th round (348th overall) by the New Orleans Saints in the 1970 National Football League Draft. He played for the Minnesota Vikings from 1971-81 and was named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings in 2010. In 2012, Sutherland was selected to the WIAC Football All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Martha van Steenderen UW-Whitewater 1971-86 Administrator (athletic director)
Served as UW-Whitewater’s first Athletic Director-Women from 1971-86. She also was a faculty member in the health, physical education, recreation and coaching department.
	Deb Vercauteren UW-Oshkosh 1981-2000 Coach (women's cross country/women's track and field) & Administrator (assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator)
Served as UW-Oshkosh’s women’s cross country coach from 1981-2010 and won four NCAA Division III national titles and 15 WWWIAC/WIAC crowns. She was the Titans’ women’s track and field coach from 1982-2009, winning six NCAA Division III indoor championships and eight NCAA Division III outdoor crowns. Vercauteren was UW-Oshkosh’s Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator from 2005-10. In 2012, she was selected the WIAC Women’s Cross Country All-Time Coach in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Julie (Maki) Wanless UW-Stout 1990-93 Student-Athlete (women's basketball)
Was a member of UW-Stout’s women’s basketball team from 1990-93 and selected to the Kodak All-America First Team in 1993. She earned All-America accolades from Don Hanson Basketball Magazine in 1992 and 1993, and was a three-time All-WWIAC first team selection, including the Player of the Year in 1993. In 2012, Wanless was selected to the WIAC Women’s Basketball All-Time Team in conjunction with the conference’s Centennial Celebration.
	Jarrod Washburn UW-Oshkosh 1994-95 Student-Athlete (baseball)
Was a member of the UW-Oshkosh baseball team from 1994-95 and earned ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Second Team status in 1995. He was drafted 31st overall by the Anaheim Angels in the 1995 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
