MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's wrestler Cecil Philson has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.
Philson's gritty 12-11 win at 197 pounds clinched the victory for UW-Eau Claire over Luther College (Iowa) on Nov. 22. Late takedowns in the match proved Philson to be the better-conditioned wrestler, and gave the Blugolds a 20-12 lead. The win was the first time in over 20 years that the Blugolds defeated the Norse.
The wrestling team will compete again at the MSOE Invitational on Dec. 3.
