Volleyball Ends Regular Season on Winning Streak

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team won its sixth match in a row with two more 3-0 victories at the Illinois Wesleyan University Tournament today.

Eau Claire won two matches yesterday 3-0 and followed with 3-0 wins over Concordia University (Wis.) and Millikin University (Ill.) today.

In the opening match, the Blugolds won the first two sets 25-10 and 25-16, but played Concordia much closer in the third set, coming out on top 26-24.

Against Concordia, three Blugolds combined for 24 of the team's 39 kills to lead the team with eight kills each. Lauren Sutherland (Sr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) had 16 digs to lead the team and Maggie Holcombe (Fr.-Shakopee, Minn.) finished with a team high 30 set assists. The Blugolds had 11 services aces against Concordia, tying a season-high.

In the final match, Eau Claire opened with a 25-20 and despite a close second set, won 25-23. They took the match after winning the third set 25-17.

Facing Millikin, Kelly Schuh (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) led the Blugolds with 10 kills while Sutherland had a match-high 14 digs and Holcombe had a match-best 33 set assists. The Blugolds finished with 12 blocks, Keagan Kinsella (Fr.-Chanhassen, Minn.) leading the match with eight assists.

Holcombe and Alexis Wong (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) were named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament.

Eau Claire is now 20-14 on the season.

The Blugolds will now turn their attention to the WIAC Tournament, which gets started Tuesday. The Blugolds have a bye in the first round but will play in the semifinal Friday at 5 p.m. in Stevens Point.
