Volleyball Wins Two on Day One of Illinois Wesleyan Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team picked up two victories on the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan University Tournament at the Shirk Center today.

The Blugolds swept both teams they faced today, defeating Illinois Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-19) and Monmouth College 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-17).

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Blugolds hit .327, the second best hitting percentage this season. Kelly Schuh (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) led the match with 12 kills, hitting .370. Alexis Wong (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) finished with five service aces and Lauren Sutherland (Sr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) finished with 18 digs. Maggie Holcombe (Fr.-Shakopee, Minn.) led the match with 37 set assists.

In the second match against Monmouth, Keagan Kinsella (Fr.-Chanhassen, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 10 kills and finished with a .474 hitting percentage. Sutherland finished with 12 digs and Holcombe had 36 set assists. Serving, Wong again tallied five aces.

The Blugolds are now 18-14 on the season.

Saturday the Blugolds will wrap up the regular season with two more nonconference matches. They will face Concordia (Wis.) at noon and will conclude the tournament against Millikin (Ill.).
