Blugolds Turn In Top Performances at NCAA Qualifier

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire track and field teams traveled to Stevens Point on Saturday for their final meet before heading the NCAA Championships.

Carly Fehler (Sr. Oak Creek, Wis.) continued where she left off last week, winning the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.69 seconds.

Sarah Glidden (So. Greenville, Wis.) qualified for nationals by finishing first in the high jump with a jump of 5-06.50.

Flexing his muscles, Roger Steen (Sr. Luck, Wis.) broke his own school record in the shot put and moved into first place in the nation with a throw of 61-02.25. He followed that up by coming in third in the weight throw at 58-09.05.

Thurgood Dennis (Sr. Allouez, Wis.) climbed into the top spot in the nation by claiming victory in the men's 60-meter dash in 6.76 seconds, while Cody Prince (Sr. Appleton, Wis.) set a new school record and moved into first in the nation in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.49.

Dennis and Prince teamed up with Jimmy Paske (So. Minnetonka, Minn.) and William LaJeunesse (Jr. Belle Plaine, Minn.) on the men's 4x400-meter relay team that moved into third in the nation and took second on the day with a time of 3:16.88.

Not to be outdone, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Brooke Patterson (Sr. Sussex, Wis.), Steph Rouse (Sr. Minnetonka, Minn.), Jess Rupnow (Jr. Sussex, Wis.), and Jessie Reineck (So. Greenville, Wis.) took third on the day and moved into third nationally with a time of 3:52.43.

Cory White (Sr. Tomah, Wis.) rounded out the Blugolds' top finishers placing third in the high jump with a leap of 6-04.00.

Eau Claire now enters preparation for the NCAA Division III Championships, which will take place in North Carolina on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
