Women's Track and Field Successful at Triangular

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team opened its road season with several strong performances at the UW-Platteville Triangular today at Williams Fieldhouse.

Competing against participants from Platteville and UW-Stevens Point, the Blugolds recorded nine top scores and 24 top –three performances.

Eau Claire dominated several events in the track competition. Kelly Palmer (Sr.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) completed the 3,000-meter run in 10:37.03, leading fellow Blugolds Ashlyn Mauer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.)Dana Griepentrog (Fr.-Mequon, Wis./Homestead)Madi Sawyer (So.-Champlin, Minn./Park)and Kacey Rindy (Jr.-Fennimore, Wis.) in sweeping the top five spots. Blugold runners also recorded the top five times in the 200-meter dash, led by Jordanne Greenup (Jr.-Fridley, Minn.) and Katie Wesely (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) with respective times of 26.18 and 27.32. 

Wesely also laid down the quickest time – 7.63 seconds – in the 55-meter dash. Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) gave the Blugolds another top finish in the 55-meter hurdle event, recording a time of 8.58.

In the field events, the Blugolds claimed the top four spots in the weight throw, led by Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) with a throw of 15.82 meters (51-11). Julia Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) earned the top spots in both the high jump with an effort of 1.61 meters (5-3.25) and the long jump with a result of 5.03 meters (16-6).

The Blugolds also earned victories in the triple jump with Heidi Anderson's (So.-Baraboo, Wis.) 10.36 meter (34-0) attempt and in the shot put with Lindsey Haller's (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) leading effort of 12.49 meters (40-11.75).

The Eau Claire team will hit the road again next weekend for the Warren Bowles Open in Menomonie, Wis. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
