Women's Track & Field Finishes Second at Pointer Invitational

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track & field team competed well at UW-Stevens Point's Pointer Invitational, taking second place out of 13 teams today.

Eau Claire took second with 146.6 points while Winona State University (Minn.) was first with 173.7.

The Blugolds recorded 13 finishes of third place or better, with three individuals winning events.

Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) took first in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 8.37.

Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) also won an event, taking the top spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.34. Jami Riley (Fr.-Fairmont, Minn.) took second in the same event with a mark of 2:22.51.

Also claiming a first place finish was Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) in the pentathlon with a score of 3,113, a provisional qualifying mark. Michelle Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) took third in the pentathlon with 2,744 points.

In distance events, the Blugolds performed well. Teresa Coughlin (Jr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.) took second in the 5,000-meter run while Charissa Drake (Jr.-Orfordville, Wis./Parkview) was third. Kacey Rindy (Jr.-Fennimore, Wis.) found her way to a second place finish in the 3,000-meter run while Madi Sawyer (So.-Champlin, Minn./Park) was third in the mile run.

Also in track events, Talisa Emberts (Jr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) was third in the 200-meter dash while Jordanne Greenup (Jr.-Fridley, Minn.) claimed a third place finish in the 400-meter dash.

In the field, Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) reached a provisional qualifying distance in the weight throw with a toss of 16.01 meters (52-6) to take third. Julia Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) was third in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters (5-4.25).

Next Saturday the Blugolds will compete at UW-Platteville. Events are set to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
