STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - In the final event before the conference championships, the UW-Eau Claire women's indoor track & field team had a solid day of competition at the Eastbay Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point.
Blugolds bested the field in two events, the 55-meter dash and the 4x400 relay. In the dash, Jordanne Greenup (Jr.-Fridley, Minn.) had the top time with a run of 7.43. In the 4x400, the Eau Claire "A" team outran the field with a time of 3:58.99. The Blugolds' "B" team also had a solid performance in the same competition, completing the race in just 4:09.96 for the third-best time.
Several Blugolds finished side-by-side in track competitions. Katie Wesely (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) and Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) put down the third and fourth-best times in the 200-meter dash, led by Wesley's 27.03. In 55-meter hurdles, Erin Schoenfelder finished with the third-quickest time of 8.65 and Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) closely followed with a time of 8.70. Nicole Blahnik (So.-Antigo, Wis.) also completed the one-mile run with the day's fourth-fastest time of 5:24.97 and Erica Tiffany (So.-North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) finished the race with the fifth-best time.
Victoria Janasz (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) was the final Blugold to have a top-five performance at the invite. Janasz completed the 3,000-meter race in 10:55.51, the fourth-best time in the event.
In field events, the Blugolds' best performances were in the long jump and weight throw events. Hannah Norwick (Fr.-Stockholm, Wis./Pepin), Kayla Simon (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) and Julia Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) all made efforts of fifth or better in the long jump, led by Norwick's third-best jump of 5.21 meters (17-01.25). Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) made the forth-best toss in the weight throw competition, with a final distance of 16.69 meters (54-09.25).
The WIAC championships will take place next Friday and Saturday. Hosted by UW-Stout, the multi-events will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday with all other events starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
