EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team has earned a top-10 ranking for the first time in program history. The Blugolds are ranked No. 9 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association duals poll, cracking the top 10 for the first time in the 60-plus years of the program's existence.
The Blugolds are 8-2 in duals this season, with their only two losses coming at the hands of No. 2 Augsburg and No. 7 Johnson & Wales. Both defeats were narrow losses: 19-15 to Augsburg and 25-13 to Johnson & Wales. UW-Eau Claire's dual victories have all come by 30-plus points. They took first place at the Blithe Memorial Duals last weekend in Grand Rapids, Mich., by going 6-0 across two days.
UW-Eau Claire looks for a seventh straight dual win when it visits eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. The Blugolds are 2-0 in the WIAC.
UW-Eau Claire returns home on Wednesday, Dec. 14, to host No. 3 UW-La Crosse.
