Three Blugolds Earn All-American Honors on Final Day of Nationals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Three UW-Eau Claire gymnasts earned All-American honors on the final day of the 2011 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships, hosted by UW-Eau Claire.

With individual champions being determined today, the Blugolds had three individuals competing in three different events.

Olivia Aschenbrenner (Fr.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) led the Blugolds with a second-place finish on the balance beam. She recorded a 9.675 to tie with Lissette LaFex of Hamline University (Minn.) for runner-up. Naomi DeLara from UW-Stout won the beam with a 9.825.

On the uneven bars, Rachel Behmer (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) tied for fourth with a 9.500 to earn first team honors. Aschenbrenner also competed on the bars and finished tied for 12th with a 9.000 to earn second team All-American recognition. LaFex was the individual champion with a 9.700 on the bars.

Danielle Schulzetenberg (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) finished in a three-way tie for fifth on the vault. Schulzetenberg, along with La Crosse's Jenna Swails and Whitewater's Katie Thompson recorded a 9.575. DeLara also won the vault with a 9.675.

Two Blugolds earned All-American honors a second ago.
