Gymnasts Reach Season-High Score despite Taking Third

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Blugolds.com) - Despite finishing in third place facing two NCAA Division I teams, the UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team recorded a season-best score of 181.675 at the San Jose Tri-Meet with Utah State in California on Friday.

San Jose State won the meet with a score of 194.700 while Utah State University was second with 191.350. The Blugolds beat their previous season-high score of 177.375, achieved last week, and were less than four points away from a school record.

Michaela McCamey (Fr.-Dayton, Ohio/Homeschooled) and Danielle Schulzetenberg (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded the best finishes for the Blugolds, taking fifth and sixth, respectively, in the all-around. McCamey finished with a score of 36.050, a career-high, while Schulzetenberg was sixth with a 35.950. Schulzetenberg also had Eau Claire's best finish in the floor exercise with a 9.625, a career-high, to take 13th overall.

Cece Solem (So.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) had Eau Claire's top finish on the balance beam, taking eighth with a score of 9.550, a career-best, while McCamey was ninth in the event with a 9.525, also a career-high.

On the vault, Sarah Hulbert (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) had the Blugolds' top finish, taking 11th place with a season-high 9.425.

Claire Johnson (So.-Eagan, Minn.) had the Blugolds' best finish on the uneven bars with a career-high 9.300 to take 11th place.

The Blugolds will now have more than a week before their next competition. Their next event is slated for February 1 at Hamline University. Action will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
