Tyler Genovese Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's track & field member Tyler Genovese (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) has been named to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-American Men's Track & Field/Cross Country first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Genovese, an actuarial science major with a 3.84 GPA, participated in throws for the men's indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

This season he won an indoor national title at the NCAA Division III Championships in the weight throw, helping lead the team to a second-place finish. He became just the sixth Blugold in program history to win an indoor national title. At outdoor nationals this season, Genovese was runner-up in the discus throw while taking fifth in the hammer throw.

Genovese holds school records in three events, the indoor weight throw and the outdoor hammer and discus throws.

Just 37 different individuals in school history have been named Academic All-Americans, earning a total of 48 awards. A total of 16 have been recognized as first-team picks.
