Sigrist Ties School Record as Men's Track & Field Takes Fourth at Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track & field team finished in fourth place out of 15 teams at the Eastbay/Pointer Invitational, hosted by UW-Stevens Point today.

The Blugolds finished with 58 points while UW-Oshkosh won with 116.5.

In the weight throw, Tony Sigrist (Sr.-Byron, Minn.) tied a school record as he took second place with a toss of 19.83 meters (65-0.75). His distance, which is the second best in the nation this year, was the same distance Sam Johnson threw the 35-pound weight to win the 2009 national title.

The team of Cody Prince (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North), Marty Richardson (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) and Nik Ihlang (Fr.-Chanhassen, Minn.) won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.17, just one second short of a school record. The time was also the fifth fastest in the nation so far this year.

In the 3,000-meter run, Tyler Hart (So.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) took second with a time of 8:57.78

Next weekend the Blugolds will be in Menomonie at UW-Stout for the two-day WIAC Championship. Competition gets underway at 11 a.m. Friday and will conclude Saturday.
