Indoor Track & Field to Compete in Stevens Point Saturday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's indoor track & field teams will compete at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular this Saturday in their first meet on the road this season.

Last Saturday the Blugolds hosted an alumni meet in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.

Both the men's and women's teams return 17 letterwinners from a season ago.

The Blugold men took 14th at nationals last year, their best finish since the 2002 season. The women finished in 33rd place at nationals a season ago.

Six out of the seven men who competed at indoor national last year return this season.

Of the six returners, Tony Sigrist (Sr.-Byron, Minn.) had the largest impact at nationals as he was the runner-up in the weight throw. At the Blugolds' alumni meet last weekend, Sigrist won the weight throw and was second in the shot put.

On the women's side, the Blugolds return six of the nine members who competed on last year's national's team.

Of the six returners, Kim Miresse (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) had the Blugolds top finish at nationals last season, taking seventh in the 55-meter hurdles, an event she won at this year's alumni meet.

At the WIAC Championships last season, the women finished in second place while the men came in fourth.
