Men's Indoor Track & Field Wins Pointer Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track & field team won the Pointer Invitational, hosted by UW-Stevens Point today.

The Blugolds claimed first place with 176.5 points while UW-Stevens Point was second with 121 and UW-Stout was third with 89.

Eau Claire had a number of strong performances on its way to winning five events.

In the 400-meter dash, the Blugolds swept the top four spots with Cody Prince (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North) winning with a time of 50 seconds. All four Blugolds finished within 0.45 seconds of each other.

Ryan Bailey (Jr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) finished more than two seconds in front of the rest of the field in the 3,000-meter run as he came in with a time of 9:01.36.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Marty Richardson (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame), Patrick Mackin (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame) and Prince won with a time of 3:19.92, nearly five seconds faster than the other teams and the third fastest time in Division III so far this year.

In the field, Joe Lilek (Sr.-Tomahawk, Wis.) won the shot put with a toss of 51-7.25 while Tony Sigrist (Sr.-Byron, Minn.) won the weight throw with a distance of 64-1.75, the fourth best mark in the nation so far this year.

 Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be at the Brooks Classic, hosted by UW-River Falls.
