Murphy, Johnson named All-WIAC honorable mention

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball players Andrew Murphy (Jr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Walter Johnson (So. - Minnetonka, Minn.) were both named honorable mentions on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team for the 2023 season.

WIAC Release

Murphy, an outfielder, belted a team-high 14 doubles and finished the season with a .349 batting average and .425 on-base percentage. His 14 doubles were the fourth-best total in the WIAC. Murphy added a triple and four home runs, and drove in 22 runs. He stole eight bases and scored a team-best 29 runs.

Johnson, a first baseman, posted a .368 batting average and slugged eight home runs, the most of any Blugold this year. His eight homers tied for the eighth-best tally in the conference. He also hit six doubles and tallied a team-high 34 RBIs. His .425 on-base percentage ranked third on the team. He added nine steals on the base paths.

Tyler Nelson (Fr. - Corona, Calif./Centennial) was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
