Baseball drops pair of games at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team dropped a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games at UW-Oshkosh on Friday, 23-0 and 9-0.

The Blugolds fell behind early in the first game of the doubleheader and couldn't recover. The Titans scored twice in the top of the first inning and tacked on five more runs in the second to go ahead 7-0. UW-Oshkosh scored seven times in the fourth inning and nine times in the sixth to end the game in seven innings.

Carson Windeshausen (So. - Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Drew Salyers (So. - Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) both hit a double for the Blugolds, but the offense couldn't push any runs across. The Blugolds tallied six hits in the defeat.

Nico Smith (So. - Chicago, Ill./Taft) was tagged with his first loss of the season. He pitched 1.2 innings.

The Titans scored once in the top of the first inning to take the lead in Game 2. Neither team scored again until the sixth, when UW-Oshkosh pushed two runs across. The Titans closed the scoring with six runs in the ninth.

Austin Buck (Fr. - Stillwater, Minn.) led the Blugolds' offense with two hits. Salyers and Nate Witte (Jr. - Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) both doubled.

Charley Griffin (Sr. - River Falls, Wis.) turned in a solid start on the mound. He worked six innings and allowed three runs, only one of which was earned. He struck out two. Travis Thompson (Fr. - Laurel, Md./Reservoir) pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The series resumes with another doubleheader in Oshkosh on Saturday, April 8. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
