Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up another conference win with an 9-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Friday Oct. 12. The Blugolds have won five straight matches, and are now 5-1 on the season.
The Blugolds were dominate in doubles play to earn another early 3-0 lead heading into singles action. Eau Claire did not drop one set in doubles action with each duo winning 8-0. Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN) and partner Emily Cooper (White Bear, Minn.) improved to 5-1 on the season at number one doubles, defeating Leah Hollander/Kaylee Woelfel (UWSP). Hanna Zevenbergen (Baldwin,Wis./ Baldwin-Woodville) and Molly Stewart (Amery, WI) picked up another victory at number two doubles. Alexa Brooks (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Emma Barnd (Wells, Minn./Unites South Central) paired up again at the three slot and finished the doubles sweep by defeating Lea Beckman/Rebecca Goska (UWSP). The Blugolds did not slowdown in singles action with all six Blugolds earning victories and finishing the 9-0 sweep. Wijesinghe defeated Leah Hollander (UWSP) 6-0, 6-1 at number one singles, while Cooper and Stewart both winning 6-0, 6-0 at number two and three singles, respectively. Zevenbergen added a victory at the number four slot, as she defeated Angelica Hernandez (UWSP) 6-2, 6-1. Barnd earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the five slot and Rachel Slonac (Muskego,Wis.) finished the sweep with an 6-0, 6-1 win over Rebecca Goska (UWSP).
