Women's Tennis Improves to 3-0

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two wins in dominating fashion Saturday September 9. The Blugolds swept UW-Stout 9-0 and were victorious over Saint Benedict 8-1.

Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN) led the Blugolds with two wins at No.1 singles, the sophomore defeated Thisius of UW-Stout 6-2, 6-3, and followed it up with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 victory over Rahrick (CSB). Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, MN) had a great day with two dominating wins at No. 2 singles. The senior earned a 6-1, 6-1, over Kreibich (UW-Stout), later in the day was victorious over Kolbow (CSB) 6-1, 6-0. Molly Stewart (Amery, WI) and Emily Cooper (White Bear, Minn.) had tremendous days winning both matches at number three and four singles, respectively. Molly Sanvik was 1-1 on the day with a victory over Sandry (UW-Stout) 6-3. 6-1.  Kendra Berry (Duluth, MN) continues her un-beaten season at No. 6 singles. Berry defeated Kleist (UW-Stout) 6-3, 6-0 and then went on to defeat Noack (CSB) 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action Henderson and Wijesinghe won their No. 1 doubles match Saturday morning 8-1 over UW-Stout. The pair followed up with an 8-5 win Saturday afternoon over Saint Benedict. Cooper and Stewart defeated Sandry/Kreibich (UW-Stout) 8-4 at number two doubles and won 8-4 over the number two doubles team from Saint Benedict. Sanvik and doubles partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, WI/ Baldwin-Woodville) defeated UW-Stout 8-1 and Saint Benedict 8-0 and No. 3 doubles. 

The Blugolds improved to 3-0 on the season and will be back in action on September 16.
