Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team concluded their doubleheader weekend with an afternoon game against St. Norbert College. With a win the night before, the Blugolds picked up where they left off as they scored early and often to end the weekend with a 7-0 win.
The veteran leadership shined once again as Emma Peterson (Jr. – Superior, WI) would record the game's first goal just eight minutes into the opening period. Just minutes later, Hallie Sheridan (Fr. – Fergus Falls, MN) would score her first goal as a Blugold thanks to her hard work on the penalty kill and a short-handed opportunity.
Head Coach Erik Strand commented on Sheridan's play saying, "[Hallie] took some very nice steps this weekend towards taking her game to the college level."
The special teams work would not end there as Morgan Zirbel (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Abby Roeser (Sr. – Cottage Grove, MN/East Ridge) would tally a powerplay goal each to extend the Eau Claire lead. Roeser and Sheridan would find the back of the net once more each in the third period to cap off the Saturday afternoon scoring frenzy.
When asked about the veterans' role in a locker room of 15 rookies, Strand responded saying, "Keep working to become better. As they push themselves, they're showing the newcomers what Blugold hockey looks like."
Goaltender Kylah Krause (Fr. – Belleville, IL/East) stopped all 14 shots she faced in the contest recording her first win of the season and as a Blugold.
The Blugolds will be back in action Friday, November 8th when they travel to Minnesota to take on Bethel University at 7 PM.
