Roger Steen enters his 8th season as an Assistant Throws Coach for the Blugolds.
Roger has been a part of the Blugold Track and Field program since fall of 2011 when he was a student athlete himself. Steen was part of the 2015 Indoor National Championship team; which was a first in the program’s history! Steen is a 2-time DIII National Champion in the shot put and a 5-time All American. Roger was also an athlete on the UWEC football team and was an WIAC All-Conference player in the fall 2014 season. He graduated in 2016 with a double major in Business Administration and Kinesiology.
Steen has assisted in coaching shotput national champions Alex Mess and David Kornack and 13 All-Americans while at Eau Claire. He has been a part of 4 Men’s DIII National Championship teams.
Steen has continued to pursue his shot-put career which has catapulted him into great success. Steen placed 5th at the 2022 Outdoor USA Track and Field Championships. Steen then qualified for and won the 2022 North American Central American Championships (NACAC) in the Bahamas. He also has become the farthest throwing shot-putter in history to have competed as a Division III collegiate athlete. His personal best is 21.47 (70’5”) which was thrown this past 2022 season and finished 17th in the world. Roger is a 2-time USA Olympic Track and Field Trials Qualifier in 2016 and 2021.
Steen currently works as a House Supervisor for Make a Difference Homes in Lake Hallie, as well as continuing to pursue his professional shot put career.
