Men's Tennis Wins Two in Texas

Kerrville, TX (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire men's tennis team had a great start to their spring break trip to Texas. The Blugolds earned two wins today, defeating Sul Ross St. 9-0 and Schreiner 8-1.

In their first dual of spring break the Blugolds got out to a dominant start winning all three doubles matches. Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) and Matt Christensen (Rochester, Minn. /Century) earned an 8-0 triumph at number one doubles.  Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) and partner Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) defeated the number two doubles pair of Sul Ross 8-4, while Matt Gilbert (Minneapolis, Minn./ Washburn) and  Tom Williams (Burnsville, Minn.) were also victorious 8-4 at number three doubles. In singles action Eau Claire continued their dominance, with Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis./ Notre Dame) leading the way at number one singles. Janssen defeated Manuel Barera (SRS) 6-0, 6-2. Schoen was victorious at number two singles while Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn/ Totino Grace) took down Casarez (SRS) 6-2, 6-2. Fridinger and Gilbert earned wins at number four and five singles, respectively. Kole Kolinski (Kewaunee, Wis./Ashwaubenon) finished the dual sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles.

Eau Claire faced Schreiner University in the second dual of the day, and had another successful start earning another 3-0 lead after doubles play. Janssen and Mauthe won their second doubles match of the day at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 triumph.  Christensen and Schoen took down the Schreiner No. 2 doubles team 8-6, while Burk and Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil.) saw action at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-7. Eau Claire did not let up in singles action only dropping one point in singles play. Janssen was dominant at No.1 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Christensen made quick work of Voss (SU)at No. 2 singles, while  Mauthe and Schoen both came out victorious in close matches in the four and five slots. Burk sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six singles.
