Men's Tennis Splits Day One in Texas

LONGVIEW, Texas - (Blugolds.com)- In the first of two matches to be played by the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team on Monday, March 19th, the Blugolds claimed an 8-1 decision over the LeTourneau University (TX) at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview, Texas. The Blugolds fell later in the day to Texas A&M Texarkana 3-6.

In their first dual against LeTourneau the Blugolds took two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead as  Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) and  Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) earned a 8-1 victory at number two doubles. While Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Tortino Grace) and Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) won at the number three doubles spot. The Blugolds went on to sweep singles play and earn the lopsided win. Janssen defeated Wallace (LT) 6-1, 6-1 at the number one singles spot, while Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) defeated Henson (LT) 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at the number two singles position. Barros and Mauthe earned victories at the number three and four spots, respectively.  Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) was dominate at the five spot, winning 6-0, 6-1, while  Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) finished the singles sweep with a 7-5, 6-1 win at number six singles. 

The Blugolds fell later in the day to Texas A&M Texarkana, dropping the dual 3-6. Eau Claire got out to another 2-1 doubles lead with Janssen and Mauthe earning their second win of the day at number two doubles. Burk and Barros followed suit with a 8-6 win at number three doubles. Texas Texarkana defeated the Blugolds in five of six singles matches with Burk earning the only Blugold victory at the nubmer six singles slot. 

The Blugolds now 10-2, will face Mary Hardin-Baylor tomorrow at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center in Texas.
