Men's Tennis Earns Win Over Augustana

Moline, Ill. (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won all three double matches to take an early lead over Augustana and earned their first win after the break. The Blugolds defeated the Vikings 7-2 at the Quad City Tennis Center in Moline, Illinois.

Results: 

The Blugolds got out to an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Senior Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and partner Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) defeated DeRezende/Alex (AUG) 8-4  in the number one singles match-up. Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) and Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) earned a 8-4 victory in the number two doubles match. First year players; Jackson Lindquist (Eau Claire, Wis. /North) and Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn. /Eastridge) finished the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Calixto/Friberg (AUG) at the number three doubles spot. 

Janssen lead the way in singles action earning a number one singles victory over DeRezende (AUG), winning 6-4, 6-4. The Blugolds dropped singles matches at the number two and three singles spots, but went on to win at the four, five, and six spots. Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) defeated Friberg (AUG) 6-3, 6-1, at number four slot, while Mauthe notched a 6-3, 6-2 win at the number five singles. Fridinger won a three set decision, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, over Medeiros (AUG) in the number six singles match. 

 

The Blugolds look to stay undefeated as they face St. Ambrose on Feb. 3 at 9:00am at the Quad City Tennis Center.
