Colfax, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire women's cross-country team competed at their own UWEC Blugold Invite this past weekend at Whitetail Golf Course.

Results

The team had a great setup for Friday night's meet with perfect running conditions. The Blugolds finished in first place with 80 points. Carleton College was second finishing with 82 points.

Sam Slattery (Jr. – Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) was the first runner for the Blugolds, finishing first with a time of 22:06.8.

"I think we had good competition and all of the ladies ran really well, which makes me excited that we get to run there [Whitetail Golf Course] twice more," Slattery said.

Following Slattery was Morgan Marek (Sr. – Muskego, WI/Muskego) 9th (22:20.8), Lexie Tremble (Jr. Muskego, WI/Muskego) 15th (22:39.2), Emma Drangstveit (So. – Lakeville, MN/North) 23rd (22:59.1) and Naomi Long (Fr. – Medina, MN/Wayzata) 32nd (23:12.4) finished next.

Lizzy Cisewski (So. – Stevens Pont, WI/Pacelli High School) was 34th (23:17.1) and Karen Gomez-Ruiz (Sr. – Chatfield, MN/Chatfield) 36th (23:20.1) to round out the top 7 for the Blugolds.

It was a successful race as many Blugold women ran personal records (PRs) at the UWEC Blugold Invite. The racing conditions were nice and cool, perfect for PRs.

"I think we had a good race plan – people seemed to work together and finish strong – so I was pleased with that," said Head Coach Dan Schwamberger.

Schwamberger was happy with the team win and how the Blugolds stacked up against the competition. This year's invitational was the biggest one (greatest number of teams) Schwamberger's and Assistant Coach Marcie Schwamberger began coaching at UW-Eau Claire. There was a total of 25 teams running in the women's race.

"It was just a fun day – I think you're always a little nervous hosting a meet with how the weather's going to be but everything worked out well," said Dan Schwamberger.

The Blugolds will have their next race Saturday, October 13th at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Pre-Nationals Invitational held at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne Wisconsin.
