Three Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country runner Samantha Slattery (Waunakee, Wis.), men's cross country runner Patrick Treacy (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and volleyball player Madelyn Pashibin (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Slattery won the Blugold Invitational leading UW-Eau Claire to the team title out of 25 teams on Sept. 28 at Whitetail Golf Course near Colfax, Wis. She bested the field of 327 runners, pulling away from Emma Greenlee of Carleton College (Minn.) and Hannah Roeske of Wheaton College (Ill.) over the final 600 meters to win by three seconds with a 6,000-meter time of 22:07.

Treacy won the Blugold Invitational leading UW-Eau Claire to a third-place finish out of 29 teams on Sept. 28 at Whitetail Golf Course near Colfax, Wis. He bested the field of 430 runners with an 8,000-meter time of 24:40 passing Lucas Mueller of Carleton College (Minn.) and Darin Lau, last year’s NCAA Division III national champion, during the final 300 meters of the race.

Pashibin totaled 51 kills (4.25 per set) and nine blocks, while compiling a .417 hitting percentage (51-8-103) to help the Blugolds to a 4-0 record during the week. She started the week with a 10-kill, three-block, four-dig performance in UW-Eau Claire’s three-set victory over UW-Platteville on Sept. 26. On Sept. 28, she tallied a team-best 11 kills and one block in the Blugolds’ 3-0 triumph over UW-Oshkosh. On Sept. 29 against Concordia University (Wis.), Pashibin posted 15 kills (.500 hitting percentage) with two blocks and one dig in UW-Eau Claire’s 3-0 win. She capped the week off with a 15-kill (.560 hitting percentage), two digs and three-block performance to help the Blugolds to a 3-0 sweep over Carroll University (Wis.).

The cross country teams will compete at the UW-Oskosh Invite on Oct.13th , while the volleyball team will travel to St. Scholastica on Oct. 3rd.
