Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at WIAC Championship

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Even though the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team saw its six-year conference championship reign come to an end, the Blugolds still got four all-conference performances to finish in fourth place at the WIAC Cross Country Championships at Kilkarney Golf Course, hosted by UW-River Falls.

UW-River Falls took third while the Blugolds were fourth, both with 86 points. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 34 points while UW-Stevens Point took second with 78.

Nikki Rendler (Sr.-Lodi, Wis.) took 11th and Alana Jenkins (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) took 12th to earn second-team all-conference honors. Rendler ran a 22:51 and Jenkins ran a 22:52 over 6,000-meters. 

Lucy Ramquist (So.-River Falls, Wis.) took 16th place in a time of 22:59 to get honorable mention honors, and Sydney Pretasky (Fr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) took 17th place right behind Ramquist to also nab honorable mention honors. Her time was 23:00.

At the conclusion of the championship, Angie Gasser (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship team, which was selected for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.

Some of the Blugolds not running today will run next Friday the JV Cup, hosted by Luther College, while the rest of the team will attempt to qualify for nationals once again at the NCAA Regional meet Nov. 16 in Rock Island, Ill.
