No. 17 Blugolds cruise to 3-0 win over Pioneers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) The 17th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Wednesday night with another win, defeating UW-Platteville, 3-0.

The Blugolds started the first set strong with a 9-3 run, leading to a commanding 25-15 victory. Eau Claire is 10-0 this season when they start with a lead in the first set.

The Pioneers battled back in sets two and three but the Blugolds would not be denied, winning the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-15.

Eau Claire finished with a 33.1 percent attack rate which was led by Arianna Barrett (Fr.-Lakeville, MN/North) who finished the night with an attack rate of 64 percent and was tied for the kill lead with ten. Both Makenzie Bachmann (So. – Chaska, MN) and Madelyn Pashibin (Sr.-Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) would also record ten kills each and both stayed above 30 percent in their attack rates. Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) also dished out 34 assists in the win.

Defensively, Barrett and Krista Meyer (So. – Germantown, WI) each tallied four block assists while Bachmann and Amber Karn (Sr. – Middleton, WI) recorded 11 digs.

The Blugolds (13-1, 2-0 WIAC) are back are back on the road this weekend, taking on UW-Oshkosh on Friday and Concordia (WI) and Carroll on Saturday. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app on your mobile device.
