Volleyball soars past Western New England & Vassar

UNION, NJ (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team started their 2018 campaign in strong fashion, defeating Western New England and Vassar by scores of 3-0 at the Kean University Invitational on Saturday.

The Blugolds came out firing on Saturday, earning their first victory of the day with scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14.

Madelyn Pashibin (Sr. – Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) led the way with 15 kills while Madison Surprise (Sr. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) dished out 29 assists. Taylor Scalia (So. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) recorded 18 digs while Arianna Barrett (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/North) chipped in 12.

In their second match of the day, the Blugolds took down Vassar 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16. Eau Claire had a slower start this time, committing seven errors in in 35 attempts (.257) in the first set but would heat up in the next two, hitting .429 in set two and .378 in the final set to complete the sweep.

Kendra Baierl (So. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) and Pashibin led Eau Claire with 12 and 15 kills, respectively, while Surprise added 45 assists. Makenzie Bachmann (So. – Chaska, MN) recorded 15 digs while Scalia tallied 14.
