Volleyball Wins Two on Final Day of Sandy Schumacher Tournament

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team picked up two wins Saturday at the 2014 Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament in the McPhee Physical Education Center to finish the weekend 3-1.

Against Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) in the day's first match, the Blugolds won 25-18, 25-14, 25-22. They followed that with a 3-1 victory over St. Norbert, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 25-21.

In the opener, the Blugolds hit a season-high .357, committing just seven errors, a season-low and the fewest since finishing with just four against UW-La Crosse on Oct. 28, 2011.

Emily Miller (Fr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) led the Blugolds in kills with 10 after hitting .667, a career-high. Katrina Raskie (So.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) recorded 16 digs while Jenna Smits (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) had 37 assists, both of which were match-highs.

Against St. Norbert, the Green Knights outhit the Blugolds .228-.211 but had only 45 kills compared to a season-high 56 for the Blugolds. Eau Claire had 9.5 total blocks, nearly a season-high.

Four Blugolds finished in double-figures in kills with Megan Tracy (Sr.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) leading the way with 12. Jamie Dimka (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) had a career-high 36 digs, which also tied for sixth most in school history and the most since Lauren Sutherland finished with 38 against UW-Platteville on Oct. 29, 2011. Smits had a career-best 45 set assists to lead the match.

The Blugolds finished the day with 10 service aces, six coming against Concordia and four facing St. Norbert. Tracy led the team with a total of five.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Smits and Alexis Wong (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Eau Claire is now 8-9 on the season.

The Blugolds will be back in action next Friday as they open conference play at UW-Superior for a match at 7 p.m. They will be home next Saturday against UW-La Crosse at 2 p.m.
