Women's Indoor Track & Field Finishes 12th at Nationals

GRINNELL, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's indoor track & field team finished the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship in 12th place with 12 points, capturing its best finish since the 2009 season.

Wartburg College (Iowa) won its third national title in program history with 99 points, the most a team has ever recorded in the championship's history. The previous high point total was 66, set by Christopher Newport University in 1988. UW-Oshkosh came in second with 48 points while Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) was third with 30.

Saturday, the Blugold women earned All-American status in both events in which they competed.

Talisa Emberts (Sr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) came in sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.12 seconds.

In the final event of the championship, the 4x400-meter relay, the Blugolds came in seventh place. The group of Emberts, Steph Rouse (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), Erin Schoenfelder (Jr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Jordanne Greenup (Sr.-Fridley, Minn.) finished with a time of 3:54.86, less than a second short of a school record.

Also contributing to the Blugolds' point total were two All-American finishes from Friday. Brittany Frederick (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was third in the weight throw while Julia Baranek (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) tied for seventh in the high jump.

The Blugolds will now turn their attention to the outdoor season, which gets underway on March 24.
