STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team notched a win on the road Friday, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 9-0.
UW-Eau Claire (7-2, 3-2 WIAC) swept the three doubles matches at a loss of seven games and won each of the six singles matches in straight sets.
The closest match of the day was at number two doubles, where Paige Kuepers (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Southwest) and Olivia Gallagher (Jr.-Lodi, WI) came away with an 8-4 victory over and Katelyn Asfeld and Kaylee Roberts. Sarah Henderson (So.-Prior Lake, MN) and Colleen McCullough (Sr.-Maple Grove, MN/Osseo) and Brooke Volpone (So.-Monticello, MN) and Molly Sanvik (Fr.-Winona, MN) were victorious at the other two spots for UW-Eau Claire, winning 8-2 and 8-1, respectively.
Henderson and Asfeld's match at first singles featured a tight second set but Henderson avoided a decisive third set by closing out a 6-1, 7-5 win. McCullough defeated Kleist 6-3, 6-2 at second singles and Gallagher topped Nicole Thorson 6-1, 6-3 at the third spot.
UW-Eau Claire dropped three games in wins at the fourth through sixth singles positions.
The Blugolds will play in their final match before the WIAC tournament on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Action begins at 11 a.m.
