Women's Soccer to Play UW-Whitewater in WIAC Semifinals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After defeating UW-Platteville 3-1 on Tuesday in the first round of the WIAC Championship, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team will play in the semifinals today at UW-Whitewater at 6 p.m.

The Blugolds, who are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, are 8-8-3 on the season. The Warhawks hold a 14-0-4 record, are the No. 1 seed and are ranked 16th in the nation.

The two teams faced each other in a conference game on Sept. 28 and the Warhawks came away with a 2-0 victory in Whitewater. The Blugolds have not beaten Whitewater since 2008 but three of the six games were contested in overtime. Eau Claire won five straight between 2005 and 2008.

A win against the Warhawks would get the Blugolds to the conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at either UW-Stout or UW-Oshkosh.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team will kick off the 2013 WIAC Championship, hosting a first round game against UW-Platteville at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 5) at Bollinger Field.

The Blugolds are seeded fourth in the tournament while the Pioneers are fifth. The winner of the game will compete in the semifinals at either No. 1 seed UW-Whitewater or No. 2 seed UW-Oshkosh at 6 p.m. Thursday at 6 p.m. The championship will be contested Saturday at 1 p.m.

Eau Claire currently holds a 27-0 all-time record against Platteville but the teams have played very close the last three years. Most recently the Blugolds won 1-0 on Oct. 19 at Bollinger and won 1-0 in Platteville last season. In 2011, the Blugolds won 2-1 in double overtime.

Tuesday's game will be the 47th conference tournament game for the Blugolds and they hold a 27-15-4 record all-time.
