Fischer Named Capital One Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire softball's Amanda Fischer (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West) collected another post-season award Wednesday as she was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Softball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. 

Fischer, the first three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American in program history, was also named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Position Player of the Year. She led the conference with a .440 batting average to accompany a .806 slugging percentage that ranked her second in that category. Fischer also topped the conference in both on base percentage (.525) and runs scored (49) while batting in 44 total runs. She tied for first in homeruns at 12 and also in total hits, finishing with 59. The third baseman broke school records in career stolen bases (101) and single season homeruns (12) while tying the career homerun record (38).

The Kinesiology major and psychology minor carries a 3.43 GPA and is set to graduate in December.
