Men's Tennis Goes 2-0 on Saturday

DUBUQUE, Wis. (blugolds.com) –The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team finished went 2-0 on Saturday, defeating both Dubuque and Lawrence by a score of 8-1.

The Blugolds won every singles match on the day. At number one singles, Kyle Hoffmann (Jr. Franklin, Wis.) defeated Dubuque's Richard Rhinehart 7-6, 6-4 and Lawrence's David Jumes 6-4, 6-3.

At number two, Will Weyenberg (So. Neenah, Wis.) defeated Matthew Sablay (UD) 7-6, 6-2 and Sotaro Kurahashi (LU) 6-0, 6-0 while Andrew Rust (Fr. Golden Valley, Minn.) beat Nikolay Gospodinov (UD) 6-1, 6-3 and Brian DeCorte (LU) 6-4, 6-1 at number three singles. 

At number four singles, Michael Mauthe (So. Neenah, Wis.) claimed victories over Ranfer Hernandez (UD) 6-3, 6-1 and Mitch Kasprzyk (LU) 6-0, 6-1. And at number five singles, Andrew Dahl (Fr. Fort Atkinson, Wis.) defeated Zebulon Hill (UD) 6-0, 6-1 and Adam Busch (LU) 6-1, 6-0.

Jordon Stevens (Jr. Woodbury, Minn.) and Conrad Felten (So. Wausau, Wis.) finished the sweep, defeating Ethan Perushek (LU) 6-1, 6-2 and Jordan Hamling (UD) 6-2, 6-1, respectively.

In doubles, the team of Weyenberg/Rust earned two victories, 8-5 over Rhinehart/Hamling (UD) and 8-3 over Lawrence's team of DeCorte/Busch while the team of Mauthe/Stevens defeated Dubuque's team of Hill/Gospodinov 8-1 and Lawrence's team of Kasprzyk/Perushek 8-0.

The Blugolds (9-3) return to the court March 13 in Madison where they will take on Augustana at 4 p.m.
