Men's Tennis Dominates UW-Oshkosh, Falls to UW-Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis earned a big win against UW-Oshkosh Saturday morning before falling to UW-Whitewater in the afternoon to finish the day 1-1.

In the first match of the day, the Blugolds came out strong, dominating the Titans 9-0.

Kyle Hoffmann (Jr. Franklin, Wis.) and Andrew Dahl (Fr. Fort Atkinson, Wis.) got things rolling for the Blugolds, winning at number one doubles, 8-3. Andrew Rust (Fr. Golden Valley, Minn.) and Will Weyenberg (So. Neenah, Wis.) followed suit at number two doubles, winning by a score of 8-2. In number three doubles, Jordon Stevens (Jr. Woodbury, Minn.) and Michael Mauthe (So. Neenah, Wis.) finished the doubles sweep, cruising to an 8-0 win.

Eau Claire continued their dominance in singles play, with Hoffmann earning a 6-4, 6-4 win at number one while Rust won by a score of 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles. Weyenberg also turned in a win for the Blugolds at the number three spot, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Mauthe and Dahl tallied quick wins at four and five singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Conrad Felten (So. Wausau, Wis.) gave Eau Claire the complete sweep, winning by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 10-1.

The second match of the day proved to be a different story as the Blugolds lost a tough 8-1 battle to No 25 UW-Whitewater, who are also ranked No. 6 in the Central Region.

The number two doubles team of Rust and Weyenberg were the only Blugolds to earn a win against Whitewater, winning by a score of 8-4.
