Swimming and Diving Completes Day One of WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - With day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) swim and dive championships in the books, the UW-Eau Claire men's team sit in fourth with 145 points while the women are in third with 175 points. 

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - With day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) swim and dive championships in the books, the UW-Eau Claire men's team sit in fourth with 145 points.

Thomas Hensen (So. Delafield, Wis.) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.97.

Jake McDade (Sr. Monona, Wis.) also finished second in his event, the 500-yard freestyle, in 4:39.22.

The Blugold relays also did well on the day.

Hensen, Ben Fisher (So. Roselle, Ill.), Ryan Young (So. Lakeville, Minn.), and Logan Coert (Fr. Cedarburg, Wis.) finished second in the 400-yard medley relay at 3:25.21, while the relay team of Fisher, Jack Kelley (Fr. Medina, Minn.), Hensen and Coert finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.08.

Fisher also found success in his individual competition, the 50-yard freestyle. He finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.06 seconds.

Allie Hable (Jr. Ankeny, Iowa) set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle (23.47) in the prelims before finishing second overall in 23.47.

Hable returned to lead the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Ellie Hostetler (Jr. St. Paul, Minn.), Rachel Travers (Jr. Vadnais Heights, Minn.), Maddie Gray (Jr. Roseville, Minn.) to a third place finish.

Lisa Reed (Sr. Duluth, Minn.) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.91.

Amanda Baker (Jr. Hudson, Wis.) led the way in diving, finishing second in the three meter dive with a score of 459.55, while Sara Axness (Jr. Eau Claire, Wis.) came in third in the same event with a score of 453.25.

Eau Claire will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the conference championships.
