Men’s Swimming and Diving Place 4th at Rochester Invitational

ROCHESTER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming and diving team competed in its last competition before the end of the fall semester at the Rochester Invitational finishing fourth out of six teams here today at the Rochester Swim Club.

Jake McDade (Sr.-Monona, WI/Monona Grove) was the highest individual place winner for the Blugolds finishing third in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 16:48.99.

Dayton Miller (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy) finished fifth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:11.83 which was nearly two seconds faster than his preliminary qualifying time of 2:13.21.  Miller also placed eighth in the 400 Individual Medley posting a time of 4:24.51.  Miller's qualifying time in the 400 IM was 4:22.10.

Ryan Young (So.-Lakeville, MN/North) placed fifth in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:59.28.  Ben Fisher (So.-Roselle, IL/Lake Park) finished sixth in the 50 Freestyle completing the race in 23.17 seconds.  Evan Koch (Sr.-Oak Creek, WI) finished seventh in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:01.72.

The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Jack Kelly (Fr.-Medina, MN/Wayzata), Logan Coert (Fr.-Cedarburg, WI), Noah Gannon (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Fisher finished fifth with a time of 1:27.77.  Their time in the finals was more than two seconds faster than their preliminary time of 1:29.99.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Thomas Hensen (So.-Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine), Fisher, Young and Coert earned a fifth place finish posting a time of 1:37.83, nearly two seconds faster than there preliminary time of 1:39.64.

The Blugolds will return to the pool on Friday, January 23 when the swimmers will compete in the UW-Stevens Point Invitational while the divers will host the UW-Eau Claire Diving Invitational.
