Blugolds Fall To The Falcons In Regular Season Finale

River Falls, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey took on UW-River Falls on Friday evening. After skating to a 1-1 tie two nights prior, the Blugolds would not be able to find the back of the net in their 2-0 loss.

Box Score

It was another even matchup between the two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams. The shots would fall in favor of Eau Claire in the first two periods, 16 to 10. River Falls would take the lead towards the end of the middle frame, after a roughing major to Jordan Kovacs (Fr. – Shelby Township, MI/Warren De La Salle) would create a five-minute powerplay for the home team.

The final period would show no light for the Blugolds. Despite outshooting the Falcons 24-12, UWEC was unable to figure out the UWRF goaltender. River Falls would add a late goal to put the game out of reach in the final minutes.

Zach Dyment (Sr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 10 of the 12 shots he faced in his second loss of the season. Dyment's record now stands at 3-2-1

The Blugolds earn the 2nd seed in the WIAC Commissioner's Cup and will get a first round bye. They will host the winner of UW-Stevens Point and NOrthladn College on Wednesday, March 10th at Hobbs Ice Arena. Puck drops is scheduled for 7:30PM.
