Men's Hockey Skates To A Tie With Falcons

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team was back at Hobbs Ice Arena on Wednesday. After having their previous two games cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols, the Blugolds would host the Falcons from UW-River Falls. Despite putting up 39 shots on goal, Eau Claire would skate to a 1-1 tie with River Falls.

The Blugolds would find themselves trailing late in the first after a shot from the point by Tim Gelatt (UWRF) would find its way through traffic for a 1-0 lead. The powerplay goal was only the fourth time Eau Claire had given up a goal on the man-advantage.

After trailing for more than ten minutes, the Blugolds would finally find life and tie the game halfway through the 2nd period. Derek Hammer (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) would score his fourth of the year in the after capitalizing on a 2-on-1 rush with Nick Techel (So. – Wausau, WI/West) on the primary assist.

Zach Dyment (Sr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 24 of the 25 shots he faced in his fifth game of the season. Dyment is now 3-1-1 on the year.

The Blugolds will travel to UW-River Falls on Friday for their final regular season game. Both teams stand on top of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) standings. Eau Claire will clinch the top spot with a win, but the Falcons will take top honors in the event of a tie or Blugold loss. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM.
