McVeigh and Blugolds swat down Yellowjackets at home

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team was back at Hobbs Ice Arena on Wednesday as they hosted UW-Superior. After a deadlocked first period, the Blugolds would open the flood gates in the final two periods for a 5-1 win.

Coming off a home loss just five days prior, Eau Claire would play with intensity and a consistent counterattack to down the Yellowjackets with a flurry of goals.

Adam Parsells (Sr. – Wausau, WI/West) would start things off with a wrist shot from the point for the game's first goal. Parsells would garner a helper of his own later in the game for a two-point night. Him and Charles Weiand (Jr. – Rosemount, MN) would be the only Blugolds with multi-point games.

The offensive firepower would continue just moments later after Jon Richards (Sr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) would put home a rebound to increase the lead to 2-0.

In the third, the Yellowjackets would cut the lead in half with a goal of their own, but Eau Claire answered with three goals from Cole Paskus (Sr. – Madison, WI/West), Nathan Dingmann (Sr. – Plymouth, MN/Wayzata), and Derek Hammer ((Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge).

Riley McVeigh (Jr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) would stop 15 of the 16 shots he faced. McVeigh earns his first win of the season for a 1-0-0 record and his fourth win in a Blugold sweater.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Superior, WI to take on the Yellowjackets for the second game of the home-and-home. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM.
