Blugolds drop first home game to Pointers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team hosted UW-Steven Point on Friday in their second game in three days. After a strong victory in the first game, the Blugolds were unable to keep the Pointers at bay in a 2-1 loss.

The Blugolds started the game strong outshooting Stevens Point 10-6 in the first period.

The second frame would begin in favor of Eau Claire as Jon Richards (Sr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) would score his 22nd goal of his career, after wristing a shot past the goalie from the middle of the slot, just five minutes into the period.

The Pointers would respond quickly with back-to-back goals about 30 seconds apart to take their first lead just eight minutes into the period.

The remainder of the contest would be physical as both teams combined for 22 minutes of penalties in the final 31 minutes of the game.

Zach Dyment (Sr. - Abootsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 18 of the 20 shots he faced and is now 1-1-0 on the season.

The Blugolds will be back at Hobbs Ice Arena on Wednesday, February 10th when they take on UW-Superior. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.
