Blugold Student-Athletes Excel Academically During 2011-12 Season

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – While UW-Eau Claire student-athletes saw success on the field during the 2011-12 season, they also performed well academically and were recently recognized by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The 22-sport Blugold Athletics program, which included 521 individuals in 2011-12, achieved a 3.131 department GPA. It was the 11th year in a row the department reached a 3.00 or better GPA.

With the 3.131 GPA, UW-Eau Claire was one of five WIAC institutions to receive the WIAC’s All-Academic Award, which is presented to athletic programs that had a GPA for its student-athletes equal to, or greater than, the GPA of the overall student body.

Additionally, a total of 319 Blugold student-athletes were named to the 2011-12 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Student-athletes with a 3.0 grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale) were named to the Scholastic Honor Roll.

Individuals named to the Scholastic Honor Roll received a certificate, while institutions claiming All-Academic Awards collected a plaque.

Athletically, the Blugolds finished 15th in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup out of more than 430 Division III institutions. The award measures success of athletic programs on a national level. UW-Eau Claire was also second in the WIAC All-Sports competition, combining both the men’s and women’s finishes in conference play. But the Blugold women came in first against their counterparts from around the league for the sixth straight year and the 12th time overall.
