Wrestling Falls to Nationally-Ranked Titans After Taking Early Lead

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team started out well against the 17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans but ended up falling 34-12 at the McPhee Physical Education Center tonight.

The Blugolds won two of the first three matches as competition started at 184 pounds.

After a loss at 184 pounds, Luke Ortscheid (So.-Wausau, Wis./West) won with a 9-4 decision at 197 pounds and Joe Pitsch (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North) pinned his opponent in 1:32 in the heavyweight class to give the Blugolds a 9-4 lead.

But from there, Ryan Seidler (Jr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) had the Blugolds' only victory the rest of the night, as he defeated Oshkosh's Scot McCullough 7-3 at 149.

The Blugolds fall to 5-16 overall and 0-3 in the conference while Oshkosh is 9-3 on the season and 3-2 in WIAC duals.

Tomorrow, the Blugolds will host the 34th Annual UW-Eau Claire Open. Action is set to get underway at 9 a.m.
