Wrestling Splits at Maranatha Duals; Two Blugolds go 4-0

WATERTOWN, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team won two matches and lost two at the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Duals Saturday.

Facing Maranatha, the Blugolds won 48-3 and then lost a match 24-15 to the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Blugolds then defeated Lakeland College 31-16 while narrowly falling to Wheaton College (Ill.) 24-22.

Two Blugolds went 4-0 on the day.

At 184 pounds, Mat Rieckhoff (So.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) went undefeated while Joe Pitsch (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North) was 4-0 in the heavyweight class.

Rieckhoff won three matches by decision and another with a pin. He opened the day pinning his Maranatha opponent in 2:35 and then won the other matches with scores of 7-0, 6-0 and 7-1.

Pitsch won his opening match by forfeit and followed with another by injury default. He then ended the day with major decision victories, 13-0 and 9-1.

Three other Blugolds found their way to 3-1 records on the day.

Thursday, the Blugolds will head to Platteville for two more dual competitions facing UW-Platteville and Knox College.
