Wrestling Beats Knox, Falls to UW-Platteville; Four Blugolds go Unbeaten

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing in two dual meets in Platteville, the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team opened the day with a 27-18 win over Knox College (Ill.) but fell 22-12 to UW-Platteville.

In the opening dual, Knox earned all of its points with three forfeits in the 125, 133 and 157 pound weight classes. The Blugolds accumulated their points from five decisions and two forfeits.

Against Platteville four Blugolds picked up wins by decision. Two of Platteville's five wins came when the Blugolds forfeited at 133 and 157 pounds.

Four Blugolds won both of their matches today.

At 149 pounds, Ryan Seidler (Jr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) won 4-3 against his Knox opponent while scoring a 7-3 win over his Platteville opponent.

Levi Polus (Sr.-Winona, Minn.) won twice at 165 pounds. He picked up a 3-2 win facing Knox and then won 9-4 against Platteville.

In the 184 pound weight class, Mat Rieckhoff (So.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) won 7-4 to open the day against Knox and then picked up a 4-0 decision against Platteville. He has now won 10 straight matches.

Joe Pitsch (Sr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North), in the heavyweight category, won 5-4 over his Knox opponent and then shut down his Platteville opponent with a 6-0 win. He has won seven matches in a row.

The Blugolds are now 4-11 in dual meets this season and 0-2 in conference duals. Platteville improves to 5-5-1 overall and 1-2 in conference meets. Knox is 1-7 overall.

Saturday the Blugolds will be at Cornell College (Iowa) for the Matman Invitational. Action is set to get underway at 9 a.m.
